Publication Policies

If you are currently an nPOD investigator, we ask that you become and remain familiar with the nPOD Publication and Presentations Policies. This policy document includes acknowledging statements, governs the use of nPOD images in publications, explains how to identify nPOD samples in your work, and provides other guidelines related to presentations and publications. As an approved nPOD investigator, you are responsible for abiding by the guidelines and requirements of this document. On this page you will find several resources which will help you maintain compliance with the policies:

nPOD acknowledging statements:

nPOD is only able to provide investigators with these precious tissue samples through the incredible generosity of donor families and the hard work of our partner organizations. We ask that you recognize them by using the nPOD acknowledging statements, which are included below. You can find additional information about these statements in the nPOD Publication and Presentations Policies document.

Posters

The JDRF nPOD logo should appear in posters, electronic presentations and similar media. Logos are provided below.

Presentations

All presentations that report findings obtained through the use of nPOD resources must acknowledge the nPOD network as the source of those resources and the agencies. In addition, Organ Procurement Organizations (OPO) must be recognized.

Manuscripts

For manuscripts, the following statement should appear in the acknowledgments section:

  • “This research was performed with the support of the Network for Pancreatic Organ donors with Diabetes (nPOD; RRID:SCR_014641), a collaborative type 1 diabetes research project supported by JDRF (nPOD: 5-SRA-2018-557-Q-R) and The Leona M. & Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust (Grant#2018PG-T1D053, G-2108-04793). The content and views expressed are the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the official view of nPOD. Organ Procurement Organizations (OPO) partnering with nPOD to provide research resources are listed at https://npod.org/for-partners/npod-partners/.”

Terms of use for nPOD Online Pathology Images

Images from the nPOD online pathology website may be used in publications. If you would like to use these images, it is required that you use standard nPOD nomenclature to refer to the images and include an acknowledgement of the nPOD project in the manuscript. If ONLY images from the nPOD online pathology site are used in the manuscript, the following acknowledgement statement can be used:

“Images in this manuscript were provided by Network for Pancreatic Organ Donors with Diabetes (nPOD) online pathology site. nPOD is a collaborative type 1 diabetes research project supported by JDRF and the Helmsley Charitable Trust. Organ Procurement Organizations partnering with nPOD to provide research resources are listed at https://npod.org/for-partners/npod-partners/.”

If the manuscript includes original scholarship in part based on nPOD samples, please use the acknowledging statement provided above.

Verify final case diagnosis

We strive to make the most accurate diagnosis of nPOD cases possible based on the information available at the time. Occasionally, new data resulting from advancing technologies may lead to reclassification of nPOD cases. Therefore, final case diagnosis should always be verified before publication.

Use standard nPOD nomenclature

nPOD samples, both those received by investigators and/or images downloaded from the nPOD online pathology site, are to be referenced with the RRID (e.g., SAMN15879149) and the standard nPOD nomenclature (e.g., nPOD 6092) so that all investigators may identify samples reported on. Please do not rename nPOD cases “Case 1, 2, 3, 4” or any other non-nPOD designation in your manuscript.
