NIH RFA 19-026: New Investigator Gateway Awards for Collaborative T1D Research

NIH has issued a “New Investigator Gateway Awards for Collaborative T1D Research” Funding Initiative. This initiative is similar to our internal HIRN New Investigator Initiative we held a few years ago – except that it’s being organized centrally at NIH (with more awards and more money!) and the applicants are encouraged to submit the group they would like to work with (HIRN, TEDDY or TrialNet).

  • Letter of Intent Due Date(s): February 25, 2020 and October 3, 2020
  • Application Due Date(s): March 25, 2020 and November 3, 2020
  • Scientific Merit Review: June/July 2020 and Feb/March 2021
  • Advisory Council Review: October 2020 and May 2021
  • Earliest Start Date: December 2020 and July 2021
  • Expiration Date: November 04, 2020

Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards
NIDDK intends to commit $3,500,000 in FY 2020 and FY2021 to fund up to 25 awards.

Award Budget
Applications may request budgets of up to $100,000 in direct costs per year for up to two years.

Award Project Period
The maximum project period is 2 years.

Foreign Institutions
Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Institutions) are not eligible to apply.
